During the period from January to July of this year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan referred 54,434 individuals to the Republican Narcological Center of the Ministry of Health to determine various states of intoxication.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this data was released by the Working Group of the State Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs.
The report noted that among those referred, 3,778 individuals underwent medical examinations specifically to test for drug use. Of those tested, 1,851 were confirmed to be drug users, and necessary legal and medical measures have been implemented in response to these findings.
Currently, 667 patients are receiving treatment under the methadone substitution therapy program across three specialized facilities: 258 at the Republican Narcological Center, 288 at the Center for Combating AIDS, and 121 at the Sumgait Narcological Center.
These measures are part of a broader, ongoing initiative by the Azerbaijani government to strengthen public safety, curb illicit drug use, and ensure compliance with public order regulations across the country. The state continues to prioritize public health and security through rigorous monitoring and rehabilitation programs.
