The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has issued a sharp response to the United States' classification of humanoid robots manufactured in other countries as a national security risk. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, Beijing has condemned the move as a form of economic discrimination targeting Chinese companies and their products.
A spokesperson for the ministry stated that the decision by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) severely harms Beijing's legitimate trade interests, undermines the stability of economic relations between the two nations, and negatively impacts global industrial and supply chains.
The spokesperson emphasized that Washington is excessively broadening its interpretation of national security and urged the US to abandon this policy immediately. The ministry warned that if the US persists with these restrictions, China will take decisive measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests.
The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently expanded its list of communications equipment deemed to pose a national security risk. The updated list now includes humanoid and quadrupedal robots, as well as energy inverters integrated into networks. Under the new regulations, these products will be ineligible for FCC approval, effectively banning their marketing and sale within the United States.
This development occurs amidst escalating technological competition between the world's two largest economies. The integration of advanced robotics into critical infrastructure has become a focal point of geopolitical tension, with both nations increasingly utilizing regulatory frameworks to safeguard their respective technological ecosystems.
