China has expressed strong opposition to reports regarding the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his spouse in the United States.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian addressed the issue during a press briefing. He stated that Beijing is firmly against such actions and views them as a violation of international law. Lin Jian noted that these moves by the United States strike at Venezuela's sovereignty and pose a threat to stability in the Latin American and Caribbean regions.
The Chinese official emphasized that Beijing will continue to support Venezuela's efforts to protect its sovereignty, national dignity, and legal rights. This diplomatic friction occurs as US President Donald Trump continues to implement a firm foreign policy regarding regional security and international legal standards. China has long been a key economic and political ally of Venezuela, frequently advocating for the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
The relationship between Beijing and Caracas has historically been characterized by significant cooperation in the energy and infrastructure sectors. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China often challenges unilateral sanctions and legal actions taken by Washington against Latin American nations, asserting that such measures bypass established international frameworks and aggravate regional tensions.
