The death toll from the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the Mindanao region in the southern Philippines on June 8 has risen to 45, according to international media reports.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the disaster has resulted in 630 injuries, while the fate of 17 individuals remains unknown.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council stated that the earthquake caused significant infrastructure damage, affecting 2,994 homes across the region. The Philippine Armed Forces have deployed search and rescue teams to the affected areas to assist in ongoing recovery efforts.
The Philippines is situated along the Pacific "Ring of Fire," a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. Due to this geographic location, the country frequently experiences seismic activity, making disaster preparedness and rapid response capabilities critical for the nation's safety.
