China has expressed deep concern regarding the seizure of an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel by the United States.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson Guo Jiakun told Reuters that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz is currently "sensitive and complex."
The spokesperson emphasized that all parties involved must responsibly adhere to ceasefire agreements and avoid further escalation of tensions. He also stressed the necessity of creating appropriate conditions to restore normal maritime transit through the strait. The statement follows an announcement by Washington that US forces fired upon and seized a cargo ship attempting to bypass a blockade of Iranian ports. Tehran has countered these claims, stating the vessel originated from China and accusing the administration of US President Donald Trump of engaging in "armed piracy."
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global maritime corridor, essential for the transport of significant portions of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies. Any instability in this region poses a direct threat to international energy security and global trade routes. Azerbaijan, maintaining its commitment to regional stability and the principles of international law, continues to advocate for peaceful resolutions to maritime disputes to ensure the unhindered flow of global commerce.
