The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has stated that there is no justification for the continued escalation of tensions surrounding Iran, calling for an immediate resolution to the conflict.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the ministry emphasized in an official statement that a swift settlement would be mutually beneficial for both Iran and the United States.
"There is no reason for this conflict, which in fact should never have occurred, to continue. Resolving the situation as soon as possible would benefit the U.S. and Iran, as well as regional countries and the entire world," the statement noted.
According to reports, the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on February 28. Following the escalation, Washington announced a two-week bilateral ceasefire with Tehran on April 7. On April 11, the parties held several rounds of negotiations in Islamabad; however, both Tehran and Washington failed to reach a long-term agreement due to persistent disagreements.
On April 21, US President Donald Trump announced plans to extend the ceasefire with Iran. In response, Iranian State Television reported that Tehran would not officially recognize Washington's unilateral initiative to extend the ceasefire period, though it would continue to take steps in accordance with its national interests.
China has historically maintained a policy of promoting stability in the Middle East, often acting as a significant economic partner to Iran while maintaining diplomatic channels with Washington. Beijing's recent call for de-escalation aligns with its broader strategy of positioning itself as a mediator in global conflicts and ensuring the security of international energy corridors.
