The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has released new information regarding military operations conducted against Iranian targets. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, a statement published on CENTCOM's official "X" account confirmed that several Iranian military facilities were targeted with precision-guided munitions.
The operation's primary objective was to mitigate threats to maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and to ensure regional security, the statement noted. The strikes targeted Iranian air defense systems, coastal radar positions, missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) production facilities, as well as small naval vessels.
CENTCOM reported that the operation involved fighter jets, warships, and kamikaze drones. Notably, this operation marked the first deployment of kamikaze-type unmanned surface vessels. The command emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical strategic maritime corridor for global commerce.
In its statement, CENTCOM asserted that Iran does not exercise control over this region and that U.S. forces remain prepared to uphold freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce. The command added that U.S. forces are committed to maintaining regional stability in the face of what it described as Iran's "unjustified aggression, threats, and illegal statements."
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most vital maritime chokepoints, through which a significant portion of the global oil supply passes. Ensuring the security of this corridor has long been a priority for international naval coalitions. It should be noted that the U.S. military previously announced similar actions against Iranian assets on July 7 and 8, citing threats to commercial shipping vessels in the area.
