An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has crashed near the Samref oil refinery located in the industrial zone of the Yanbu port city on the Red Sea.
The Ministry of Defense of Saudi Arabia released information regarding the incident, Operative Information Center-OMM reports. According to official statements, authorities are currently on-site to evaluate the scale of any potential damage caused by the crash.
The Samref refinery is a major joint venture between the state-owned Saudi Aramco and Mobil Yanbu Refining Company Inc., a subsidiary of the global energy giant ExxonMobil. This incident follows previous reports of a ballistic missile being intercepted over the Yanbu port area, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the region's strategic energy corridors.
Yanbu serves as a critical industrial hub for Saudi Arabia, acting as a major terminal for oil exports and home to several petrochemical complexes. The security of such facilities is paramount for global energy markets, as the Red Sea route remains one of the world's most vital maritime passages for petroleum shipments and international trade.
