Several drones heading toward the Shaybah oil field in the Rub al-Khali desert have been intercepted and destroyed.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that these details were released in an official statement by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense. According to the ministry, the kingdom's air defense systems successfully neutralized the aerial threats before they could reach their intended targets.
The Ministry of Defense further noted that Saudi Aramco evaluates the Shaybah field's production capacity at approximately 1 million barrels of crude oil per day, highlighting the strategic importance of the site. Additionally, military officials confirmed that several other drones were shot down in various regions across the country during the same period, emphasizing a heightened state of alert for the kingdom's defense forces.
The Shaybah oil field is a critical asset for Saudi Aramco, located near the border with the United Arab Emirates, and represents one of the world's most remote and significant energy infrastructure projects. This incident occurs amid escalating regional tensions; notably, on February 28, the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran, accusing Tehran of advancing its missile and nuclear programs. Such attacks on energy infrastructure in the Middle East often lead to increased volatility in global oil markets and heightened security measures across the Arabian Peninsula.
