The United Kingdom government has expanded the scope of its sanctions regime against Russia.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing information published on the official UK government website, the new restrictive measures have been applied to 10 Russian citizens.
The sanctions were imposed due to the individuals' alleged involvement with the Rybar LLC media project. British authorities accuse these individuals of participating in activities aimed at destabilizing the situation in Ukraine, as well as threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of the country.
It should be noted that London previously imposed sanctions on seven other Russian citizens. Those individuals were accused of involvement in Russia's chemical weapons program and the development of the "Novichok" nerve agent. However, the British side has not provided specific public evidence regarding the allegations presented in these cases.
The United Kingdom has been a consistent partner in international efforts to pressure the Russian Federation through economic and diplomatic sanctions since the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022. These measures, often coordinated with the European Union and the United States, target various sectors of the Russian economy, including finance, energy, and media entities deemed to be involved in state-sponsored disinformation campaigns.
