The Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (SVR) issued a statement on Tuesday accusing Great Britain and France of actively working to provide Ukraine with nuclear weapons. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Russian intelligence claims that London and Paris believe Moscow could be forced into ending the conflict on more favorable terms if Kyiv possessed atomic weapons or, at the very least, a "dirty bomb."

The report suggests that European states are currently considering the supply of such weapons and their delivery systems. These allegations were immediately and categorically rejected by both London and Paris. Great Britain's Minister of State Stephen Doughty called the claims "outright lies" and another attempt at disinformation to distract from the conflict. He emphasized that his country remains fully committed to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

Jerome Bonnafont, France's permanent representative to the UN, also sharply criticized the accusations, stating they have no factual basis. He noted that France, as a responsible party, would never violate its international obligations. Meanwhile, the Russian side claimed that Germany has refused to participate in this alleged venture. In response to the situation, the Federation Council of Russia has called on international organizations and legislators of the relevant countries to conduct an investigation.

The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), cited by British officials, is a landmark international treaty whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology. Both the United Kingdom and France are permanent members of the UN Security Council and recognized nuclear-weapon states under the treaty, which prohibits the transfer of nuclear weapons to non-nuclear-weapon states like Ukraine. These tensions come amid a complex geopolitical landscape where US President Donald Trump has signaled a desire to facilitate a resolution to the ongoing regional instability.
