Atrocities committed in El Fasher indicate signs of genocide.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the United Nations fact-finding mission has announced that evidence collected regarding crimes committed during the siege and capture of the Sudanese city of El Fasher bears the hallmarks of genocide.
According to the report, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) captured El Fasher, located in western Darfur, at the end of October following an 18-month blockade. The event is considered one of the most brutal stages of the civil war that has been ongoing in Sudan for nearly three years and has sparked widespread international outrage.
The conflict in Sudan, which erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, has led to one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. International observers and human rights organizations have frequently raised alarms over ethnic targeting and mass displacements in the Darfur region, drawing parallels to the tragic events of the early 2000s. The UN fact-finding mission continues to document systematic violations of international humanitarian law as the global community calls for an immediate ceasefire and the protection of civilian populations.
