The Main State Traffic Police Department has issued a formal appeal to drivers regarding safety measures on intercity roads during the Saturday and Sunday weekend period, citing an expected increase in traffic volume.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the department emphasized the critical importance of conducting a thorough technical inspection of vehicles before embarking on long-distance journeys. Official guidelines highlight that the functional integrity of the braking system, steering mechanism, tire condition, and lighting systems are essential components for ensuring travel safety.
According to the statement, motorists are advised to adjust their speed limits according to road conditions, maintain a safe following distance from other vehicles, and perform overtaking maneuvers only in designated areas. The department further stressed that drivers should take short breaks if they experience fatigue during long trips, avoid distractions such as mobile phones, and strictly adhere to seat belt regulations.
In Azerbaijan, the Main State Traffic Police Department regularly conducts such awareness campaigns to reduce the frequency of road-transport accidents, particularly during holidays and weekends when traffic flow toward the regions increases. These measures are part of a broader national strategy to enhance road safety infrastructure and ensure the protection of all road users across the Republic's highway network.
