Azerbaijani and Turkish citizens detained in Batumi

Officers of the Adjara Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have conducted a special operation in Batumi to prevent the distribution of a particularly large quantity of narcotics.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that according to an official statement from the ministry, a citizen of Azerbaijan, identified as N.A. (born 1993), and a Turkish citizen, S.C. (born 1993), were detained. The individuals are accused of illegal purchase, possession, and aiding in the sale of a particularly large amount of drugs.

During searches conducted on the suspects and at their temporary residences, a particularly large quantity of "heroin" was discovered and seized as material evidence. According to investigation materials, the accused individuals packaged the drugs and hid them in various locations across Batumi for the purpose of sale. Law enforcement officers also confiscated materials used for packaging the narcotics during the operation.

The investigation is ongoing under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Georgia. If convicted, the detainees face a sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment. This operation is part of Georgia's intensified efforts to combat international drug trafficking and organized crime in the Black Sea coastal region, which serves as a strategic transit point between Europe and Asia.
