Baku-Naxchivan-Baku bus services, which operate through the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, have been suspended for security reasons due to recent developments in the Middle East.
The Azerbaijan Yerüstü Nəqliyyat Agentliyi (AYNA) under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport informed Operative Information Center-OMM that several scheduled trips have been temporarily postponed. Specifically, the 19:00 and 20:00 services from Baku to Nakhchivan, the 21:00 service from Baku to Sharur, the 15:30, 16:30, and 17:30 services from Nakhchivan to Baku, and the 16:30 service from Sharur to Baku on February 28 have been canceled. Passengers are advised to contact the AYNA "141" Call Center for further inquiries regarding ticket status and updates.
The Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic also confirmed the suspension to Operative Information Center-OMM, noting that detailed information regarding the resumption of the bus services will be provided to the public in due course. The decision comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers traveling through the region amid heightened geopolitical volatility.
The land route connecting Baku to the Nakhchivan exclave via Iran has been a vital transport link for Azerbaijan, as the direct land passage through Armenian territory remains unavailable. Azerbaijan has been actively working on diversifying its transport infrastructure, including the development of the Zangezur corridor and alternative routes through neighboring countries, to ensure stable and secure communication between its main territory and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. This suspension highlights the strategic importance of regional stability for the continuity of international and domestic transport corridors in the South Caucasus.
