The Baku Grave Crimes Court has concluded the trial of French citizen Martin Ryan and Azerbaijani lawyer Azad Mammadli, who were accused of crimes against state security following an investigation by the State Security Service (SSS).
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the final verdict was announced during the latest court session held in Baku.
According to the court's ruling, Martin Ryan was sentenced to 10 years in prison, while Azad Mammadli received a 12-year sentence.
Both individuals were detained as a result of a special operation conducted by the State Security Service. During the trial, it was revealed that the SSS had monitored their activities over an extended period before moving forward with the arrests. The defendants were charged with engaging in espionage and activities detrimental to the national security of Azerbaijan.
This case comes amid heightened security measures and ongoing efforts by the State Security Service to neutralize foreign intelligence networks operating within the country. In recent years, Azerbaijan has intensified its counter-intelligence operations to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, particularly in the context of evolving regional geopolitical dynamics. The State Security Service remains the primary agency responsible for identifying and preventing threats posed by foreign intelligence services and their local collaborators.
