Baku Metro CJSC recorded high performance in passenger transportation this March, serving a total of 18,269,887 passengers.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this figure represents a 1.1% increase compared to the same period last year. The highest daily ridership was recorded on March 6, with 796,734 people using the underground network. During the Novruz holiday period, traffic towards the city center increased sharply. Specifically, on March 21-22, the Sahil station became the busiest point of the metro, receiving 51% more passengers than usual.

The transition to digital payments in the metro has also accelerated significantly. According to statistics, one in every three passengers now completes their fare payments using NFC technology. This shift reflects the ongoing modernization of the capital's transport infrastructure and the increasing preference for contactless solutions among commuters in Azerbaijan.

Baku Metro, which began operations in 1967, remains the primary mode of public transportation in the capital, connecting major residential areas with the business district. As the first underground railway system in the Middle East and post-Soviet space outside of Russia and Ukraine, it currently consists of three lines—Green, Red, and Purple—with a total of 27 stations. The ongoing expansion projects aim to increase the total number of stations to 76 and the length of the lines to 119 kilometers to meet the growing demands of Baku's expanding population.
