Azerbaijan has successfully resolved one of the most complex and long-standing territorial conflicts in the region, ensuring the full restoration of its sovereignty.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov made these remarks during a special session titled "Cities at the Center of Connectivity: Urban Reconstruction and Regional Cooperation," held as part of the 13th Session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13).
The minister highlighted Azerbaijan's significant socio-economic progress, noting that the country has managed to reduce its poverty rate from 49 percent to 5 percent in less than 20 years. "A strong link must be established between the economic development of cities and connectivity, and the improvement of people's well-being must be at the center of all these processes," Jabbarov emphasized.
The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations in 2001, serves as the premier global platform for discussing sustainable urbanization and the challenges of rapid urban growth. Azerbaijan's participation in WUF13 underscores its commitment to regional development and the ongoing large-scale reconstruction projects in the liberated Garabagh region. The government of Azerbaijan is currently implementing the "Great Return" program, which focuses on building modern infrastructure and "smart" settlements to facilitate the sustainable resettlement of formerly displaced citizens.
