Azerbaijan and Romania have held high-level discussions to further strengthen their strategic partnership, focusing on deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, announced the details of the meeting on his social media account. Hajiyev held a productive discussion with his Romanian counterpart, Marius Lazurka.
"Reaffirming the strategic partnership and traditional friendship between Azerbaijan and Romania, we discussed opportunities to further deepen our bilateral relations," Hajiyev stated. "As an EU member state geographically closest to the South Caucasus, Romania holds a significant place in our cooperation. We exchanged views on prospects for developing collaboration in political, economic, energy, defense, cultural, humanitarian, and other fields. We agreed to continue our active political and security dialogue."
The relationship between Baku and Bucharest has historically been robust, particularly within the framework of the EU-Azerbaijan strategic energy partnership. Romania serves as a key gateway for Azerbaijani energy resources into the European market, notably through the Southern Gas Corridor and the Black Sea Green Energy Cable project, which aims to transport renewable energy from the Caspian region to Europe. These initiatives underscore the growing geopolitical and economic importance of the Azerbaijan-Romania axis in ensuring regional energy security.
