Special transit zones for passengers traveling to third countries will be established at the international airports of Azerbaijan.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this innovation is reflected in the "Rules for the Simplification of Formalities for Air Transportation," which was approved today by President Ilham Aliyev.
Under the new regulations, significant concessions will be applied to crew members and passengers of aircraft flying from the airport to a third country. Specifically, it will be possible to stay at the airport for a period not exceeding 24 hours without undergoing border control procedures and without requiring a visa. To facilitate this, appropriate transit zones will be organized at the country's international airports.
Furthermore, in accordance with the Migration Code, the transit visa requirement is being abolished for foreigners or stateless persons permanently residing in foreign countries in specific cases. This applies to situations where passengers fly through the territory of the country without changing planes or change planes in the transit zone without passing through border control.
Additionally, a transit visa will not be required for citizens of states that have a visa-free travel agreement with Azerbaijan, or for those who possess other valid visas allowing them to cross the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
These reforms aim to enhance Azerbaijan's position as a regional aviation hub and improve the efficiency of international logistics. By streamlining transit procedures, the government seeks to increase the competitiveness of the country's airports and attract a higher volume of international passenger traffic between Europe and Asia. This move aligns with Azerbaijan's broader strategy to modernize its transport infrastructure and promote the non-oil sector through tourism and transit services.
