Azerbaijan has initiated measures to accelerate border and customs procedures for rail transport operating between Azerbaijan and Georgia. According to the "Operative Information Center-OMM", the State Border Service (SBS) confirmed that these directives are being implemented in accordance with instructions from President Ilham Aliyev.
Following the presidential mandate, the leadership of the State Border Service, the State Customs Committee, and the "Azerbaijan Railways" CJSC have been briefed on optimizing border and customs control, streamlining documentation processes, and enhancing overall passenger satisfaction for those traveling on the Azerbaijan-Georgia route.
As part of the initiative to bolster security and operational efficiency, officials conducted inspections at key railway stations, including Yevlakh, Ganja, Aghstafa, and Boyuk Kasik. During these visits, the existing infrastructure, current border and customs control mechanisms, and the conditions for the safe and efficient handling of passenger and cargo transport were thoroughly evaluated.
Specific instructions were issued to improve border crossing procedures, reduce processing times, elevate service standards for citizens, and ensure robust transport security. Officials emphasized that inter-agency cooperation will continue to focus on maintaining reliable state border protection, facilitating secure and uninterrupted transit along international transport corridors, and improving the quality of services provided to the public.
The rail connection between Azerbaijan and Georgia serves as a vital component of the Middle Corridor, an international transport route linking China and Europe via Central Asia and the Caucasus. By modernizing customs and border procedures at these strategic stations, Azerbaijan aims to increase the competitiveness and attractiveness of this transit route, thereby strengthening regional economic integration and logistics efficiency.
