Azerbaijan has extradited Dovletgeldi Nursakhedovich Bashimov, born in 1979, who was wanted internationally, to Turkmenistan.

This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan.

According to the official statement, the request from the Prosecutor General's Office of Turkmenistan for the extradition of the individual to face criminal charges was granted by the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan.

Bashimov was wanted internationally for his alleged involvement in a group conspiracy to illegally acquire, store, and transport potent substances—not classified as narcotics or psychotropic drugs—for the purpose of sale in Turkmenistan. He was identified and detained in Azerbaijan in March 2026, and a preventive measure of arrest was subsequently imposed.

The suspect was handed over to the competent authorities of Turkmenistan under the escort of a special convoy from the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan.

Extradition is a standard legal procedure in international law, governed by bilateral agreements and international conventions, aimed at ensuring that individuals accused of crimes are brought to justice in the jurisdiction where the alleged offenses occurred. Azerbaijan consistently cooperates with international partners to combat transnational crime and fulfill its obligations under international legal assistance treaties.
