The second certification process for teachers will be conducted in the coming weeks or months.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev made the remarks at a news conference on the new academic year.
He said teachers’ professional development must be strengthened to ensure quality education.
“New assessment frameworks will be presented for teachers who will undergo certification for the second time in the coming weeks and months. The new frameworks will not differ fundamentally from the previous ones, although certain changes will be introduced,” he said.
Amrullayev said particular attention would be paid to reading and reading comprehension skills among primary school teachers.
“The focus in primary schools will be particularly on reading. It is very important for us that teachers working in primary grades have strong reading comprehension skills. Otherwise, they cannot teach these skills to children,” he said.
The minister also positively assessed the results of the first five-year certification stage.
“The results of certification will become clearer over time rather than immediately. The requirements placed on teachers will also increase over time. If we want education to become better and higher quality, we must expect higher quality standards from our teachers as well,” he said.
He added that, alongside teacher assessments, discussions were also underway on approaches to remuneration during the second stage of certification.
Teacher certification in Azerbaijan is designed to assess professional knowledge and skills and support improvements in the quality of teaching. The process also provides a basis for identifying professional development needs and reviewing incentives for educators.
