Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation to discuss bilateral relations and recent regional developments.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that the ministers focused on the security situation following recent incidents in the region.
During the conversation, Araghchi emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran remains committed to its policy of good neighborliness with Azerbaijan. He noted that Tehran is interested in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan across all sectors. Addressing the explosions that occurred today in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the Iranian Foreign Minister categorically denied allegations regarding any projectiles being fired from Iran toward Nakhchivan. Araghchi added that Iran's armed forces are conducting the necessary investigations and verifications regarding the matter.
The minister further suggested that the Israeli regime could be behind such attacks, claiming the motive is to distract public opinion and undermine Iran's relations with neighboring countries. He noted that similar instances have been observed in recent days. Araghchi also expressed his regret over the injuries sustained by several individuals as a result of the incident.
The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an exclave of Azerbaijan, shares borders with Iran, Armenia, and Türkiye. Maintaining security along these borders is a priority for the Republic of Azerbaijan, especially within the framework of regional stability and the protection of its territorial integrity. Diplomatic communication between Baku and Tehran has intensified in recent years to address border security and economic cooperation, reflecting the strategic importance of the Aras River basin and shared infrastructure projects.
