The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement regarding the drone attacks launched from Iran against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that official Ankara has resolutely condemned the UAV attacks carried out today against Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
"We once again emphasize the necessity of immediately ending such attacks that target third countries in the region and increase the risk of the war spreading. As always, Turkey will continue to stand by Azerbaijan," the statement reads.
According to official reports, drone strikes were carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan today. One drone struck the terminal building of the Nakhchivan International Airport, while another fell near a school building in the village of Shekarabad. The airport building sustained significant damage, and four individuals were reported injured as a result of the strikes.
Nakhchivan, an exclave of the Republic of Azerbaijan, shares borders with Turkey, Armenia, and Iran. The region holds strategic importance for Azerbaijan's territorial connectivity and regional security. Turkey and Azerbaijan maintain a deep strategic alliance, reinforced by the Shusha Declaration, which pledges mutual defense and cooperation in the face of external threats to either nation's sovereignty or territorial integrity.
