Zəngəzur dəhlizi beynəlxalq nəqliyyat qovşağına çevrilir - Vahid Hacıyev

The Zangazur corridor will not only restore a direct land connection between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan but will also become a vital strategic link connecting the East-West and North-South international transport corridors.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Vahid Hajiyev, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Jabrayil, Qubadli, and Zangilan districts, made these remarks during an event titled "From Urbicide to Revival: Sustainable Reconstruction, Resettlement, and Development in Azerbaijan's Liberated Territories" held in Baku as part of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).

According to the Special Representative, large-scale work began on the implementation of this corridor immediately after the liberation of Azerbaijani lands from occupation. "Currently, the construction phase of the highway section of the corridor is nearing completion. At the same time, the railway line is also close to being finished. Furthermore, the construction of a bridge over the Araz River, which will connect Azerbaijan and Iran, is also nearing completion. Thus, this project is becoming a crucial element of regional transport and logistics integration," Hajiyev stated.

The envoy further noted that the realization of the Zangazur corridor will enable the formation of a circular railway network in the region and increase Azerbaijan's annual freight transport potential by approximately 50 million tons. He emphasized that the Zangilan International Airport is already operational, significantly improving cargo flexibility, connectivity, and accessibility for investors and businesses. Even before the corridor's full completion, there is substantial interest from logistics and industrial companies recognizing the strategic importance and economic opportunities of this route.

The Zangazur corridor is a centerpiece of Azerbaijan's post-conflict reconstruction strategy, aimed at transforming the liberated territories into a modern economic zone. By providing the shortest land route between Europe and Asia via the Middle Corridor, the project is expected to enhance regional peace and stability through economic interdependence. The integration of Zangilan, Jabrayil, and Qubadli into global supply chains marks a significant milestone in the "Great Return" program, which focuses on the sustainable development and repopulation of the Garabagh and East Zangazur economic regions.
