XİN: Azərbaycanda 2020-ci ildən bəri 433 nəfər mina qurbanı olub

Since the end of the 2020 Patriotic War, 433 people have become victims of landmines planted by Armenia in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry shared this data on its official social media account, noting that a recent landmine explosion resulted in serious injuries to two Azerbaijani citizens.

"This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the severe humanitarian consequences caused by landmines and the daily dangers faced by innocent people," the MFA stated. "There is an urgent need to strengthen international support to expand demining operations. A mine-free future is a fundamental prerequisite for ensuring sustainable peace, development, and human security."

The issue of landmines remains one of the most significant obstacles to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Garabagh and East Zangezur economic regions. Since the liberation of these territories in 2020, Azerbaijan has faced a massive challenge in clearing vast areas contaminated with explosive remnants of war. The government of Azerbaijan continues to prioritize demining efforts to facilitate the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral lands and to ensure the security of ongoing infrastructure projects in the region.
