An earthquake has occurred in the Caspian Sea, according to official data released by the Earthquake Research Bureau of the Republican Seismic Survey Center.
The Report news agency, citing the center, reports that the seismic event was recorded at 06:27 local time. The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 3.1, was centered 69 km northeast of the Guba station. Official records indicate that the epicenter of the tremor was located at a depth of 74 kilometers.
The Caspian Sea region is a seismically active zone due to its location at the junction of several tectonic plates. While tremors of this magnitude are frequently recorded in the basin, they are typically not felt on land and rarely cause any damage to infrastructure. Azerbaijan's Republican Seismic Survey Center continuously monitors the Caspian shelf to ensure the safety of coastal regions and offshore energy projects.
