A powerful explosion, followed by a fire, occurred on the ground floor of a two-story residential building in the Yasamal district of Baku, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Emergency Situations received an immediate alert regarding the incident. Firefighting crews were dispatched to the scene and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the rest of the structure. The fire affected approximately 50 square meters of the 250-square-meter ground floor area.
Despite the rapid response, the incident resulted in a tragedy. Emergency responders recovered the body of a teenager born in 2010 from the debris. Additionally, three other individuals sustained injuries of varying severity and were provided with medical assistance. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations frequently conducts public awareness campaigns regarding gas safety in residential buildings across Azerbaijan. Such incidents underscore the critical importance of adhering to safety protocols and maintaining gas equipment in older residential housing stock in the capital.
