A 5.5-magnitude earthquake has struck the central region of Japan, according to reports.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) confirmed the seismic event.

Initial reports indicated that a tsunami warning was issued immediately following the tremors; however, authorities lifted the alert just minutes later. While the earthquake caused significant concern, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or major structural damage.

According to TASS, the effects of the earthquake were felt in the capital, Tokyo, where residents reported household items falling and furniture swaying. Local authorities are currently assessing the situation for any potential impact on infrastructure.

Japan is situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it one of the most seismically active nations in the world. The country maintains rigorous building codes and emergency preparedness protocols to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters. Notably, on June 12, the Japanese government reviewed its 10-year emergency response plan to enhance preparedness for potential major earthquakes in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
