Venezuela has declared a seven-day national mourning period to honor the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck the country on June 24. The decision aims to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the natural disaster.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the announcement was made by Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez. In a statement shared on her social media account, Rodriguez expressed the nation's profound grief and solidarity in the wake of the tragedy.

The seven-day mourning period is scheduled to take effect starting at 18:00 local time on July 2.

In the aftermath of the seismic event, significant relief efforts have been mobilized. To date, humanitarian aid has been delivered to more than 80,800 families affected by the earthquake. The ongoing search and rescue operations involve a massive deployment of resources, including 26,121 Venezuelan personnel, 3,660 international search and rescue specialists, 148 specially trained rescue dogs, and 49 pieces of technical equipment. Furthermore, 15,467 volunteers are actively supporting the humanitarian and recovery efforts on the ground.

Earthquakes of this magnitude often necessitate extensive international cooperation and long-term recovery strategies. Venezuela, located in a seismically active region, frequently coordinates with global partners to manage disaster response and infrastructure rehabilitation following such catastrophic events.
