Search and rescue operations are ongoing following a tragic incident in the Karakaya neighborhood of Turkey's Antalya province.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, search efforts for Ahmet Polat, who went missing on June 12 after entering the Alara River to cool off while picnicking with friends, have now entered their 13th day.
According to reports, the operations, conducted under the supervision of the Manavgat Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, involve numerous state agencies and volunteer organizations.
A total of 78 personnel are currently involved in the search. The operation includes Gendarmerie public order and commando units, underwater rescue teams, specially trained search dogs, police divers, as well as personnel from AFAD, IHH, and UMKE.
The search area covers approximately 3 kilometers of the riverbed between the State Hydraulic Works (DSI) dam in the Karakaya neighborhood and the Ulugüney pumping station in the Odaönü neighborhood, as well as surrounding pond areas.
State Hydraulic Works (DSI) officials have utilized heavy machinery to place sand and gravel into the riverbed to reduce the water flow velocity, facilitating the search efforts.
Despite these extensive measures, no trace of the missing individual has been found at this stage, and the search and rescue operations remain active.
Such search and rescue operations in Turkey are frequently coordinated by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), which plays a critical role in managing natural disasters and search missions across the country. The Alara River, known for its challenging terrain and varying water levels, requires specialized equipment and trained personnel for effective underwater search operations.
