The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan received an alert via its "112" hotline regarding a fire in an apartment located in the Haji Zeynalabdin settlement of Sumgait.
The Ministry informed the Operative Information Center-OMM that units from the State Fire Protection Service of the Sumgait City Fire Protection Department were immediately dispatched to the scene upon receiving the report.
Thanks to the prompt intervention of the firefighters, the blaze, which originated in the hallway of an apartment on the fifth floor of a five-story residential building, was extinguished in a short time, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the unit or adjacent apartments. The total area of the apartment is 45 square meters.
As a result of the incident, a shoe rack and an electrical outlet were damaged over an area of 1 square meter. No injuries were reported, and the remainder of the apartment was successfully protected from the fire.
Sumgait, the third-largest city in Azerbaijan, is a major industrial hub located on the Absheron Peninsula. The Ministry of Emergency Situations frequently conducts public awareness campaigns and regular inspections to ensure fire safety compliance in the city's densely populated residential districts.
