The seventh round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon is currently underway in Rome, Italy.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Lebanese media reports, delegations from both sides gathered at the US Embassy in Rome for the second day of the three-day scheduled meetings. The primary focus of these discussions is the establishment of a permanent ceasefire and the determination of technical details for the implementation of a pilot zone. A high-ranking Lebanese official noted that the dialogue process is proceeding intensively.
These talks follow an initial preparatory meeting held in April at the US Department of State, which was mediated by the United States and marked the highest-level direct negotiations between the two nations since 1993. While Lebanese leadership, including President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, view the talks as a vital step toward preventing bloodshed and achieving long-term peace, the process faces domestic opposition from Hezbollah and allied political factions, who have characterized the direct contacts as a form of surrender.
The parties previously signed a framework agreement at the conclusion of the fifth round of talks on June 26, followed by a sixth round held in Rome on July 14-15. US President Donald Trump has announced plans to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the White House in the near future to further support the peace process.
