A new report by the influential Polish non-governmental organization "Instytut Krytyki Politycznej" indicates a significant shift in public attitudes toward Ukrainians in Poland since the beginning of 2025.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the report titled "We Are Not at Home: Ukrainian Migrants and Refugees on Relations with Poles" analyzes the social situation of Ukrainian migrants and refugees. The study, authored by migration researcher Olena Babakova and sociologist Przemyslaw Sadura, notes that negative attitudes are no longer confined to social media platforms.

Nearly all 25 Ukrainian participants in the study reported experiencing increased hostility in public spaces, workplaces, and educational institutions. Respondents frequently cited discrimination in public transport, housing rentals, employment, and healthcare services. The report highlights instances of verbal abuse and intimidation directed at those speaking Ukrainian or those with a noticeable accent.

The report suggests that the 2025 Polish presidential election cycle has further hardened public discourse regarding Ukrainian refugees. Campaign rhetoric from conservative candidate Karol Nawrocki and far-right candidate Slawomir Mentzen has been identified as a contributing factor to this trend. While Poland became a primary sanctuary for Ukrainians following the 2022 Russian invasion, recent surveys indicate a decline in public support, driven by concerns over social welfare, labor market competition, and historical grievances.
