While performing their official duties in the Omar Pass area of the Kalbajar district, two servicemen of the Azerbaijan Army, Rajab Mirish oglu Mansimli and Ilyas Joshgun oglu Osmanov, fell into a ravine due to snowy and icy terrain conditions.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Defense confirmed the incident.
The Ministry stated that Ilyas Joshgun oglu Osmanov, who sustained various injuries, was immediately provided with first aid and evacuated to a nearby medical facility. His condition is reported as stable.
"We regret to inform you that it was not possible to save the life of Rajab Mirish oglu Mansimli due to the injuries he sustained," the Ministry said in an official statement.
The leadership of the Ministry of Defense expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased serviceman and wished a speedy recovery to the injured soldier. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
The Kalbajar district, located in the mountainous region of Garabagh, is known for its challenging high-altitude terrain and severe weather conditions, particularly during the winter months. The Omar Pass, a critical strategic location, often experiences heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures, which can make military operations and logistics in the area hazardous.
