A 5.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Caspian Sea on Tuesday, with tremors felt across the southern regions of Azerbaijan.
The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) and the Republican Seismic Survey Center of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, reported that the epicenter was located approximately 58 kilometers from the city of Lankaran. The seismic activity originated at a depth of 35 kilometers below the seabed.
The Caspian Sea region is a seismically active zone due to its location at the intersection of several tectonic plates. Azerbaijan frequently monitors such activity through the Republican Seismic Survey Center to ensure public safety and infrastructure integrity. While the tremors were felt in Lankaran and surrounding districts, there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage to property in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
