A magnitude 4.2 earthquake was recorded in the Caspian Sea at 06:52 local time, according to official data.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the information was released by the Earthquake Research Bureau of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. According to seismological data, the epicenter of the tremors was located at a depth of 36 kilometers.

Continuous seismological activity has been observed in the Caspian Sea in recent weeks. In April alone, a total of 16 earthquakes have been recorded in the Caspian water area. Experts note that the Caspian region is a seismically active zone due to the complex tectonic interactions between the Eurasian and Arabian plates, which frequently result in deep-focus tremors that are often not felt on the mainland but are closely monitored by regional stations in Azerbaijan.
