A series of earthquakes, the strongest measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale, occurred in the Caspian Sea on Sunday, marking a period of increased seismic activity in the region.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that according to the Bureau of Earthquake Research of the Republican Seismic Survey Center, the most recent tremors were recorded at 10:21 local time on April 14 with a magnitude of 3.1. This followed a more significant 3.8-magnitude quake at 10:00 local time. Officials noted that the depth of these seismic events varied significantly, with the 3.8-magnitude tremor originating at a depth of 5 kilometers, while the subsequent 3.1-magnitude quake was deeper, at 25 kilometers.

Earlier the same morning, two other seismic events with magnitudes of 3.1 and 3.2 were also documented in the Caspian basin. The Caspian Sea region is a seismically active zone due to its location at the intersection of several tectonic plates. While tremors of this magnitude are frequently recorded in the area, they rarely cause damage to coastal infrastructure in Azerbaijan. The Republican Seismic Survey Center continues to monitor the situation to provide real-time data on any further underground activity.
