An assault rifle and ammunition belonging to a convict have been discovered in the Buzovna settlement of Baku's Khazar district, specifically on Mammad Namazov Street. The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Ministry of Justice released information regarding the seizure.
According to the statement, the weaponry was found during a joint operational-search measure conducted by the operational apparatus of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice and relevant structural units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). It was established that a convict had hidden one AKS-74U assault rifle, one magazine, and five 5.45 caliber bullets among stones away from the main road in the aforementioned area prior to his arrest. The physical evidence was documented and seized by law enforcement officers.
An investigation into the matter is currently underway to determine the origin of the weapon and its potential involvement in other crimes. In Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service (SSS) regularly conduct coordinated operations to detect and seize illegal firearms and explosives to ensure public safety and maintain the country's low crime rate. Such joint efforts between the Ministry of Justice and the MIA are part of a broader national strategy to prevent the circulation of unregistered weaponry.
