During the demining operations carried out in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan from March 30 to April 5, 34 anti-tank mines, 83 anti-personnel mines, and 2,254 unexploded ordnances (UXO) were discovered and neutralized.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this information was released in the weekly report of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) regarding humanitarian activities in the liberated regions. Official figures indicate that a total of 2,278.1 hectares of land were fully cleared of mines during the reporting period.
These security measures are being implemented jointly by ANAMA, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the State Border Service, and four private companies. The operations primarily cover Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankendi, Shusha, Khojavand, Lachin, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Qubadli, and Zangilan. Additionally, the recently liberated villages of Baghanis Ayrim, Ashaghi Askipara, Kheyrimli, and Qizilhajili in the Gazakh district are also included in the clearance zones.
The massive contamination of Azerbaijan's liberated territories with landmines remains a significant challenge for the Great Return program, which aims to resettle internally displaced persons. Since the end of the 2020 conflict, Azerbaijan has prioritized humanitarian demining to ensure the safety of civilians and the rapid reconstruction of infrastructure in the Garabagh and East Zangazur economic regions. The scale of the threat is considered one of the highest globally, requiring extensive international cooperation and advanced technological resources.
