Employers in Azerbaijan who hire individuals with drug addictions for positions where restrictions are in place will face fines of up to 3,000 manats. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, a new article is set to be added to the Code of Administrative Offenses to regulate these employment practices.
Under the proposed legislation, officials will be fined 3,000 manats for concluding or extending labor contracts with drug-addicted persons in prohibited fields of activity. Furthermore, officials who hire individuals for restricted positions without requiring a mandatory medical examination certificate will be subject to a fine of 1,000 manats. The draft amendments are scheduled for discussion during the plenary session of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) on May 26.
This legislative initiative is part of Azerbaijan's broader strategy to enhance workplace safety and public security, particularly in sectors involving high-risk operations, transportation, and public health. By tightening the regulations surrounding the employment of individuals with substance abuse issues, the government aims to mitigate potential risks and ensure that sensitive roles are filled by qualified personnel who meet health and safety standards. The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) frequently reviews the Code of Administrative Offenses to adapt legal frameworks to contemporary social challenges and labor market requirements in Azerbaijan.
