The 84th Street in the Cankaya district of Ankara has been officially renamed as Prof. Dr. Ilber Ortayli Street.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the decision was finalized by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality during its latest session. The initiative to honor the world-renowned historian was put forward as a joint proposal by council members representing the AK Party, MHP, and CHP, demonstrating a rare moment of political consensus.

During the first meeting of the municipal council held in April, members paid tribute to the legacy of the historian and author. The proposal to rename the street located in the Yucetepe neighborhood of the Cankaya district was passed unanimously, receiving support from all 110 members present at the session. The move is seen as a gesture of national respect for Ortayli's extensive contributions to Turkish and global historiography.

Ilber Ortayli is one of the most influential contemporary historians, known for his profound expertise in Ottoman history and his efforts to popularize historical knowledge through literature and media. Cankaya, where the street is located, serves as the administrative and cultural heart of Ankara, housing many government buildings and diplomatic missions. Renaming streets after significant cultural and scientific figures is a long-standing tradition in Turkey intended to preserve the nation's intellectual heritage for future generations.
