New measures have been proposed to implement restrictive steps regarding children on social networks in Azerbaijan.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this initiative is reflected in the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) report for 2025.
The document was submitted for discussion during today's meeting of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly). During the deliberations, officials emphasized that continuous monitoring should be conducted on social networks, platforms, and websites, as well as television programs and games most frequently used by children, to prevent the promotion of violence.
The Ombudsman is proposing specific legislative amendments to identify and mitigate factors that could negatively impact the psychological well-being, health, and behavior of minors. This initiative aligns with Azerbaijan's broader strategy to enhance digital safety and child protection frameworks within the country.
In recent years, Azerbaijan has been actively updating its legal framework to address the challenges of the digital age. The protection of children from harmful information is a priority under the national strategy, which seeks to balance technological advancement with the preservation of social and moral values. Similar legislative trends are being observed globally as governments seek to regulate the impact of social media algorithms and unvetted content on the younger generation.
