A 5.8 magnitude earthquake has been recorded off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported the seismic event.
The epicenter of the tremors was located approximately 140 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city with a population of roughly 187,000 people. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 35 kilometers.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage, and authorities have not issued a tsunami warning for the region.
The Kamchatka Peninsula is situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. Due to its tectonic location, the region frequently experiences seismic activity, and monitoring systems are maintained to track potential threats to coastal communities.
