Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.0 and 5.7 have been recorded off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, reported that both seismic events occurred on July 15 with a six-minute interval.

The epicenters of the tremors were located in the waters southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The first earthquake, measuring 6.0, was recorded 210 km from the city at a depth of 64.6 km. The second tremor, with a magnitude of 5.7, occurred 206 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 72 km.

The Kamchatka Peninsula, located in the Russian Far East, is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. Due to its tectonic location, the region frequently experiences seismic activity, necessitating robust monitoring systems to track potential threats to coastal infrastructure and local populations.
