Turkey and Iran have temporarily suspended daily passenger crossings at their shared border checkpoints. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the announcement was made by Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat.

The decision was implemented on the third day of the military campaign launched by the United States and Israel against Iran. Minister Omer Bolat stated that border movement is currently regulated under specific conditions: Iranian customs officials are permitting their citizens to return home via Turkish territory, while the Turkish side is ensuring the entry of its own citizens and third-country nationals from Iran into Turkey. Notably, cargo traffic and freight transportation continue to operate under normal conditions without interruption.

"All border crossings are being managed in close coordination with Iranian officials and our relevant agencies," the minister said. He further emphasized that all units are operating at a high state of readiness to ensure the continuity of trade flows between the two nations.

The restriction comes at a time of heightened regional tension following the commencement of military actions involving US and Israeli forces. Turkey and Iran share a border of approximately 535 kilometers, with several key crossings including Gurbulak-Bazargan, Kapikoy-Razi, and Esendere-Sero. These gateways are vital for regional trade and transit, serving as a primary land link between Europe and the Middle East. Historically, Turkey has maintained a balanced diplomatic approach toward its neighbor, focusing on economic cooperation and border security while navigating complex geopolitical shifts in the region.
