US President Donald Trump has sent a formal notification to Congress regarding the military strikes conducted against Iran, outlining the objectives and scope of the operations.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing FOX News, the letter addressed to Republican Senator Chuck Grassley detailed that the precision strikes were carried out under the president's direct orders against multiple Iranian targets.
President Donald Trump emphasized that the operations were executed without the deployment of US ground forces. The document highlighted that specialized planning was implemented to ensure that civilian casualties were kept to a minimum during the aerial campaign. The president further asserted that the United States remains prepared to take additional military measures against Iran should the necessity arise to protect national interests.
The military action follows a large-scale operation launched by US and Israeli forces on February 28, which occurred while diplomatic negotiations were reportedly ongoing. In response to the strikes, Iranian forces targeted locations in countries hosting US and Israeli military bases, including Qatar, the UAE, and Bahrain. The escalation has resulted in significant casualties, including high-ranking officials such as Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, the bombardments have left 555 people dead and 747 others injured.
This military engagement marks a significant escalation in Middle Eastern geopolitics, reflecting the administration's firm stance on regional security. Under US President Donald Trump, Washington has consistently maintained a policy of maximum pressure to curb activities deemed a threat to international stability. Such formal notifications to Congress are a requirement under the War Powers Resolution, ensuring the legislative branch is informed of military deployments and the legal basis for executive action in foreign conflicts.
