The Khazar District Court of Baku has delivered a verdict in the criminal case of Ilduza Hajiyeva, a social media influencer known as "Arzum 9999," who was charged in connection with a fatal traffic accident that resulted in one death and one serious injury.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Judge Ramila Khazri, responsible for media relations at the Khazar District Court, provided details regarding the judicial decision.
The court established that on June 27, 2025, at approximately 00:53, Hajiyeva was driving a "Changan Qiyuan A05 Plug-in Hybrid" (license plate 10-BY-117) on the Mardakan-Gala road in the Khazar district of Baku. Investigators determined that she violated Articles 42 and 37 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Road Traffic" by failing to signal a maneuver and neglecting to remain at the scene of the accident.
The collision occurred when Hajiyeva's vehicle struck the rear tire of a "Mercedes-Benz D2" (license plate 77-UK-890) driven by Amal Malikov. The impact caused Malikov's vehicle to veer off the road and strike a concrete barrier. As a result, passenger Sanubar Muradova sustained severe bodily injuries, and the driver, Amal Malikov, died. Following the incident, Hajiyeva fled the scene without notifying law enforcement or providing assistance to the victims, subsequently leaving Azerbaijan for Germany to evade the investigation.
Hajiyeva was charged under Articles 263.2 (violation of traffic rules resulting in death by negligence) and 264 (leaving the scene of a traffic accident) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
"During the trial, expert analysis confirmed that Hajiyeva had the technical capability to prevent the accident had she adhered to traffic regulations," Judge Khazri stated. While the prosecution requested a sentence of 5 years and 9 months, the court considered mitigating factors, including the fact that Hajiyeva has minor children, while also noting the lack of reconciliation with the victims' families and her flight from the scene. Consequently, the court sentenced Hajiyeva to 5 years and 2 months of imprisonment. Parties dissatisfied with the verdict retain the right to file an appeal in accordance with the law.
This case has drawn significant public attention in Azerbaijan, highlighting the legal consequences for traffic violations and the responsibilities of public figures regarding road safety and accountability under the law.
