The Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, is scheduled to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his official visit to Russia on February 5–6. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing TASS and an interview with factor.am, the visit is taking place at the invitation of Valentina Matviyenko, the Chairperson of the Russian Federation Council.
Simonyan confirmed that an official meeting with Valentina Matviyenko is certain, while negotiations with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov are also on the agenda. The speaker noted that additional high-level meetings during the trip have not been ruled out. The discussions follow a telephone conversation held on January 23 with the leadership of the Russian parliament, where the parties reviewed documents agreed upon at the regional level that are currently awaiting formal signatures.
The talks are expected to focus on the current state of Armenia–Russia relations, existing challenges, and the organization of Armenian culture days in Russia. Simonyan emphasized that all topics within the bilateral cooperation framework will be addressed without exception. This visit comes at a time when regional dynamics in the South Caucasus remain a focal point for international diplomacy, as Azerbaijan continues to advocate for sustainable peace and the opening of regional transport links following the restoration of its territorial integrity in the Garabagh region.
